Crestron Releases TPMC-4XG: Next Generation of World’s First WiFi Handheld Touchpanel

ROCKLEIGH, NJ, May 14, 2008 — Innovation never stops at Crestron Electronics. The leading systems control manufacturer announced today that it has released the next generation of its revolutionary, award-winning TPMC-4X. The new TPMC-4XG now delivers 802.11g in addition to 802.11b WiFi communications, video and Windows Sideshow support. The redesigned touchpanel features a stunning silver package and new ergonomic button layout. The new field replaceable battery also enables longer usage between charges. The new TPMC-4XG puts a whole new level of control in the palm of your hand.
TPMC-4XG is ingeniously designed to provide a powerful wireless control solution that's easy to hold and intuitive to use. TPMC-4XG features a 3.5" active-matrix color touchscreen display, producing stunning 16-bit graphics with 3D effects, high-res images, dynamic graphics and text, PNG translucency and animation. A stylus is also included for use with the on-screen keyboard, conveniently stowed in its own storage slot.
Complementing the touchscreen are 19 tactile pushbuttons comprised of 10 smartly-placed buttons, a 5-way navigation thumbpad, and 4 context-assignable “hard keys” along the bottom of the touchscreen. Every button is fully programmable to support quick access to commonly used functions, on-screen menu navigation or even pan/tilt camera control. A scroll wheel is located on the right side of the TPMC-4XG, positioned for easy navigation through menus on the touchscreen or television. Incremental up and down scrolling and press-to-select commands are programmable to allow the scroll wheel to be adapted for custom applications.
Integrated 802.11b/g Wi-Fi technology delivers secure, high-speed 2-way wireless performance, communicating with Crestron control systems, computers, and media servers via a wireless Ethernet access point. Bidirectional communication provides optimal control of all devices and systems, scrolling through playlists and songs, displaying cover art from a music library and support for Windows Sideshow.
Windows SideShow enables the TPMC-4XG to access and display a variety of PC and Web-based content in real-time such as news feeds, sports scores, stock tickers, weather alerts, media guides, email messages, and appointment notifications all through a simple network connection to a Windows Vista computer.
For presentation preview, surveillance or entertainment, the TPMC-4XG delivers security cameras, movies, and other video sources right on its touchscreen display. In addition to the wide-range of formats supported by Windows Media® Player, the TPMC-4XG also includes native support for wireless streaming video from a variety of 3rd-party Web cameras and servers using the motion-JPEG and MPEG4 formats.
