New York, NY - Legendary Hotelier Ian Schrager recently opened a new hotel on New York City's Upper East Side. The 18-floor, full-service facility contains the modern flare that Schrager is known for and, to help convey his vision, it includes sound reinforcement loudspeakers by One Systems On Point Audio Series.

After successfully revolutionized the night club and "boutique hotel" industries, Schrager's latest hotel falls under his "PUBLIC" brand. His motivation for the Public New York is to make luxury achievable for all, which it does by charging inexpensive rates for quality service. Sound reinforcement was no exception, requiring a high-quality audio experience for guests at an affordable system investment.

"We listened to a half a dozen loudspeakers until we heard the On Point Audio Series models and decided that there were exactly what we had been looking for," said Ernie Lake, who worked closely with hotel management to design and install the sound reinforcement systems in the hotel. "They're a rare combination of very high quality at reasonable price points, and they were able to provide the output the hotel needs. Overall, everyone felt it was the best sounding loudspeaker for our needs."

The 367-bedroom hotel has two restaurants that are overseen by a Michelin-starred chef, plus three bars and a multimedia performance space. Each area is reinforced by On Point Audio loudspeakers.

The entrance on the ground floor leads to a large open atrium that features sixteen evenly distributed OPA-28NPs. The OPA-28NO is a dual 8-inch two-way array system with exceptional sound quality and impressive output capability in a very compact enclosure. Its Narrow-Profile 8-inch woofers and coaxially-mounted 1.35-inch compression driver create a smaller footprint than other dual 8-inch two-way speaker systems.

To the side of the atrium is the John George Restaurant, where Lake specified six OPA-12 loudspeakers for the diner's pleasure. The OPA-12, a high-performance 12-inch two-way loudspeaker, is ideal for this application. The loudspeakers consist of a long-excursion 12-inch woofer and a large-format compression driver coupled with a rotatable constant-directivity horn. Designed to provide outstanding intelligibility and fidelity, they work equally well for music and vocal reproduction.

In the middle of the ground floor are gold-colored escalators that lead to the lobby bar. The front portion of the lobby is covered by eight OPA-8NP loudspeakers, while the back of the lobby - which is where the bar is located - is reinforced by eight additional OPA-12s, along with more OPA-28NPs to ensure that every inch of the space is alive with music.

The other room on the lobby level is the Diego Bar. Because of the size and space of the enclosed room, the bar uses six OPA-12s installed close to the ceiling which point downward to keep the sound on the customers and away from the walls.

The hotel's 18th Floor Lounge provides breathtaking views of the New York City skyline and offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The hallway that leads to the bar is covered by four OPA-28NPs, while the inside portion of the bar has with OPA-12s distributed throughout the space.

The outdoor area offers guests high fidelity sound from thirteen One Systems 108/HTC Direct Weather loudspeakers that are mounted low to the ground and face the perimeter of the building. The 8-inch coaxial design provides point source acoustic radiation from its compact enclosure size and helps to keep reflections off the building to ensure that city sound restrictions are followed. The 108/HTC utilizes 316-grade stainless steel (marine-grade) for all structural and rigging points. All metal components that are not structural feature 304-grade stainless steel covered in a newly developed marine-grade powder coat.

"One of the main features of the hotel is music, which can be heard throughout the public areas," said Lake. "Quality was imperative. One Systems loudspeakers were the permit fit for this application."
