Hong Kong's Grand Aquarium Picks One Systems

Hong Kong's popular Grand Aquarium in Ocean Park has been enhanced with a new, high-performance sound system from One Systems. One Systems' distributor, Sound Classy led the project, Shen Milsom & Wike, Ltd., Hong Kong provided project specifications and consultation and China-Tech Engineering Co., Ltd. installed the 106IM/70V speakers.

The recently completed Grand Aquarium consists of coral tanks, a man-made beach decorated with numerous sand sculptures, a touch pool, a beautiful Reef Tunnel, and the world's largest aquarium dome standing at 18.2 feet (5.5 m) in diameter. When Sound Classy of Hong Kong was awarded this contract they chose One Systems speakers based on their experience with previous installations.

This is not the first One Systems installation within the park; One Systems speakers currently adorn Ocean Park's Amazing Bird Theatre as well. Due to the overwhelmingly positive response of the previous installation, choosing One Systems was an obvious choice for Sound Classy and the aquarium's officials.

The 106IM speakers are wall mounted and hung with brackets underneath the glass top of the aquarium dome, and atop the outdoor escalator entrance, adjacent to the indoor information display. Chris Fung of Sound Classy explains the need for One Systems speakers with this particular installation. "The speaker's placement position is very narrow with limited space, therefore we chose the 106IM due to its compact size yet powerful output."

Cost and reliability were also a factor when choosing a speaker system. "The client was looking for a reasonably priced system that could perform well and provide clear, even sound coverage of speech and music throughout the venue."

"We are exceptionally proud that our speakers were once again chosen for installation within Hong Kong's famed Ocean Park, and we look forward to continuing to provide them with powerful, high quality speakers," explains One Systems President, Doug MacCallum.

Ocean Park Hong Kong was built with donations from the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club (now Hong Kong Jockey Club) and it opened on January 10, 1977. It is one of the world's largest marine parks consisting of observatories, well-developed laboratories, an education department and a Whale and Dolphin Fund. Forbes recognized Ocean Park Hong Kong as one of the World's Most Popular Amusement Parks' in 2006 with over 4 million visitors a year.
